This Disaster Recovery Test Plan outlines the objectives, scope, methodology, and schedule for conducting a disaster recovery test of the Door platform. The primary goal of this test is to validate the effectiveness of our disaster recovery strategy by bringing the application online using an alternate site and ensuring that critical functions are restored within the defined Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of 1 hours and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of 24 hours.
The objectives of this disaster recovery test are as follows:
• Verify the capability of our alternate site to support the SaaS application and its dependencies.
• Validate that the backup and restoration processes for critical data are functional and meet the RPO.
• Assess the efficiency of our disaster recovery procedures and identify areas for improvement.
• Confirm that roles and responsibilities for disaster recovery are well-defined and understood by relevant personnel.
• Ensure that communication protocols are effective during the disaster recovery process.
The scope of this test includes:
• Activation of the alternate site for the application.
• Restoration of critical data from backups.
• Verification of system functionality and performance.
• Execution of predefined test cases to validate the application’s critical functions.
• Documentation of test results and identification of improvement areas.
The disaster recovery test will be conducted as follows:
a. Preparation
• Review and update the Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) and related documentation.
• Define test cases that cover the critical functions of the SaaS application.
• Ensure that the alternate site is prepared and configured according to the DRP.
• Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to schedule the test and communicate expectations.
b. Execution
• Initiate the disaster recovery test by activating the alternate site.
• Restore critical data from backups, ensuring that the RPO is met.
• Verify system functionality and performance at the alternate site.
• Execute the test cases and document the results, noting any deviations from the expected outcomes.
c. Evaluation and Reporting
• Analyze the test results to determine the effectiveness of the disaster recovery strategy.
• Identify gaps or deficiencies in the DRP and develop a remediation plan.
• Prepare a test report, summarizing the outcomes, issues, and recommendations.
• Communicate the test results to relevant stakeholders and discuss improvements to the DRP.
d. Remediation and Follow-up
• Implement the remediation plan to address identified gaps and deficiencies.
• Monitor and track the progress of remediation actions, updating documentation as necessary.
• Schedule a follow-up test, if needed, to validate the effectiveness of the updated DRP.
The disaster recovery test will be conducted on 11th March 2024. A detailed timeline of test activities and milestones will be shared with relevant stakeholders.
The following resources and personnel will be involved in the disaster recovery test:
• IT Disaster Recovery Team: Responsible for executing the test procedures, monitoring system performance, and documenting test results.
• Application Support Team: Responsible for executing test cases, validating application functionality, and reporting issues.
• Information Security: Responsible for defining the scope and security controls for the test, and ensuring all documentation is in compliance with audit requirements.
